Visit Armenia, September/October 2008

September 28, 2008toOctober 3, 2008

IAPS and the Stepanavan Youth Centre, Armenia, are planning an opportunity for IAPS members to visit Armenia, which will probably take place this autumn. It will include a chance to see scientific facilities, meet local physics students, learn about Armenian culture and talk about physics, education, and things that affect physics students throughout the world. We hope this will lead to students in Armenia and neighbouring countries becoming more involved in IAPS, and better links between all the countries participating.

Details are yet to be finalised, but we plan to apply for a grant to cover most of the costs. To apply for this grant, we need a rough indication of how many National and Local Committees think their members would be interested in this trip. If you or other members of your NC/LC might be interested, please email ec@iaps.info. Individual members who may want to participate should also get in touch. Please contact us as soon as possible as the grant application deadline is fast approaching.

Additionally, Stepanavan Youth Centre are running a general youth science meeting to discuss policy, cooperation and active citizenship, in conjunction with the Latvian Youth for Society programme. This will also take place during September this year, in Stepanavan and Byurakan, Armenia. They can include 20-25 organisations from different countries within the EU and Eastern Europe, and have asked us to extend the invitation to IAPS’ Local and National Committees. If you wish to take part, please email ec@iaps.info and we will send you the necessary form and instructions. The organisers need to receive applications via email by 20th March.

Please note you do not need to participate in the youth science meeting in order to join the IAPS trip to Armenia, or vice versa.
