In November 2021 IAPS officially became an Affiliated Commission of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) as the Affiliated Commission 5 (AC5).
The AC5 Council is chaired by the IAPS President and is elected annually in the IAPS AGM to manage and make the most of IAPS’ relationship with IUPAP, working closely with each of IAPS’ other working groups. See the formal structure of the AC5 Council here.
This year, AC5 helped IAPS to secure funding for many of its events and became involved in IUPAP’s C14, WG16 and WG5. Some AC5 Council members represented IAPS online and in-person at both the IUPAP EC&CC Meetings and the IUPAP Centenary event. The Council has also developed projects such as introducing the IUPAP Early Career Scientist prize at PLANCKS this year, which they are now working to develop into a separate award. There is a huge amount of potential with IAPS’ relationship with IUPAP. Being a member of the AC5 Council opens up many opportunities to engage in IUPAP’s activities in areas that interest you.
